Default What paint to use for painting shelves

What type of paint should I use to paint shelves?

I have used the best latex paints available but I have found that anything placed on them tends to stick with the result that the paint pulls off when the object is picked up.

In the past when smelly old oil paint was the only thing available this didn't seem to be a problem but traditional oil paint doesn't seem to be available.

Does anyone have any advice on what to use?

I used an alkyd enamel paint on shelves in my kitchen and bathroom. It was recommended that you should let it dry for a week before you put anything heavy on it. They still look great and I've never had a problem with sticking or peeling.
