Default Steam Radiator Too Tall.....Can I Cut The Legs

I am in the process of making a radiator cover for an old steam cast iron radiator that sits beneath my window sill. The cover will interfere with the window sill because its too tall due to the height of the radiator. Can I cut the radiator legs about 1.5" and will this have any negative effects on the air flow? I am assuming there is no steam flow through the legs. I am attaching a photo.

I wouldn't recommend doing this; the legs are there for a reason---to keep the body of the rad off the floor not only for air flow, but to prevent floor damage from a hot radiator.

I think if you try the rad cover with the radiator as it is, you'll get used to the slight height difference.

It would be a heck of a job to cut the cast legs as well I would think you would have to re-plumb the rads since they would be lower.

    Just my guess.

JackThe SHack: Right now there is about 3 inches clearance between the bottom of the radiator and the floor. Do you still have the same reasoning? I can't build the cover as is because it will interfer with the window sill.

Radiators are hollow cast which usually include the legs. Not a good idea to cut, sorry.
