Default #1 energy hog in most homes

Here is a thermal infrared picture of a typical attic access door on a cold day. Most home owners can save from 20% to 50% on their heating bill just by insulating this area. No one on this site would use a 1/4 inch plywood panel for a front door and yet most people over look this easy fix.
The blue area is the heat loss -and **** heat gain in the summer. as part of every home improvement task this should be added to the honey do list.

I would bet that dryer vents, ducted range hoods and bath exhaust vents run a very close second.
