Default Fuzzy white substance growing crawl space

I've been having trouble for years with my crawl space getting saturated (no standing water) just in the winter months. It usually dries out by Aug, Sept. Now I notice path of saturation from one end of the house to the other. I can't figure out where it's coming from.

My concern here, unless someone has an idea of the above, is in one corner of the crawl space there's a depression in the ground near the foundation. It's got some white fuzzy stuff growing in there. I took plenty pictures, some of which I'll try to include here...well, that's not working. What is this and what can I do about it. I ended up pouring some borate around the area - don't know if that's what's really needed.

Ok, here are some photos. I had to scale them down a bit...a big bit. I know it's a mess down there - that's a whole other story
