We recently had quartersawn white oak kitchen cabinets built to match the wood in our dining room. We did not have them stained or finished believing we would do a more meticulous job of staining and getting the finish we want. We've been able to get the exact color we want. But we're having a hard time with the finish. We don't want them to look too glossy. We're looking for that satin look and buttery feel that old wood gets over time. We've tried many hand-rubbed coats of tongue oil varnish (Waterlox) and it's not quite right. Any thoughts for us?
