Lightbulb Framing wall to support flat panel tv

I recently purchased a flat panel tv and wall mounting bracket with a total combined weight of 92 lbs. The mounting bracket is the articulating type and is capable of projecting the tv 23" from wall. I want to mount the tv & bracket in the center of a millwork bookcase which happens to be on an exterior wall but the mounting bracket does not line up with a wall stud so can I simply create a secondary frame and attach it to the existing wall studs, then mount the tv & bracket to this secondary frame?

Yes you can. The only requirement is the the mounting is put on something solid. If you don't want to fasten up a panel to mount the base to you might check some of the mounting hardware for handicap equipment (grab bars and such) they have some that are guaranteed for 500 pounds in drywall.
