Default Faucet shower pull will not work

My four year old son did some plumbing of his own and was poking around inside our bath faucet with a toy screw driver. This morning when we went to pull the shower pull to put the shower on, it wasn't working. The water was only coming out through the faucet and not through the shower head.
Does anyone have any idea how we can fix this or if it can be fixed. I tried tightening whatever I could, but nothing seems to work.

He probably jammed or broke the gate that diverts the water from the tub spout to the showerhead. Either carefully stick your finger into the tub spout to feel for a broken part or piece of toy, or look with a mirror and flashlight. If all else fails, you can remove the spout to check it or replace it. Newer models of spouts use a clamping device that generally uses an allen key to tighten or loosen it friom the under side of the spout. Older models are threaded onto the plumbing nipple that protrudes from the wall, simply unscrew it.

There may be caulking around the spout that is sealing it to the shower wall. This will need to be cut with a sharp utility knife. After removal of the spout, clean the remaining caulk off the wall before reinstalling or replacing the spout. Check the diverter that's in the spout to see if it's plugged, bent, or broken and fix accordingly.

You did it! Thank you! The piece was indeed jammed and luckily just needed a push with the same plastic screw driver that put it there in the first place. Nothing seems to have broken and all is working well again - brilliant!
