    Default making a dor jamb

    i purchased a set of french doors and the casing jamb was not able to be saved. how hard is it to make this.

    Are these interior doors? If so it is fairly simple to make the jambs for the doors. The hardest thing is mortising for the hinges. You can get the Jamb Stock at any lumber yard or home center. The stuff that Home depot or Lowes has is only 3/4 stock so you would have to add a stop. You could probably get rabbited jambs at a good lumber yard. You just have to cut them to the correct size and glue and screw or nail them together and put them in. It might be easier to mortise for the hinges first though. Careful measurements are very important here. There are jigs out there to help with mortising the hinges. Some are expensive some are fairly cheap. I recently used a Porter Cable jig I got for about $25 at Home Depot. It worked fairly well and is a good deal if you are only going to use it a few times. Hope this helps you out.
