Polypropylene versus foil faced basement blanket insulation
I want to insulate the unfinished portion of my basement. I live in St. Louis, MO. My basement walls are poured concrete. I have about 4 feet above grade and four feet below grade. No water leakage.
I don't want to put up studs. I think the easiest, least expensive, and sensible method would be a horizontal installation on the above grade portion using the so called basement blanket insulations. I am aware of the concerns about mold but I am willing to experiment given the low cost and ease of installation.
One question, does anyone know the difference between the polypropylene faced versus foil faced basement blankets made by Certainteed and Owens Corning. They both have the same R value but I'm wondering if there is a signficant difference in the radiant heat transmission. The data sheets don't say. They are both rated for exposed use.
