BATHROOM VANITY FACELIFT My 32-year-old house had "cultured marble" bath countertops that were stained and outdated. Several years ago, I sanded the surfaces to break the glaze, then used thinset mortar to tile over the counters. Once the tiles set, I grouted and sealed the tiles. I then installed a self-rimming basin. After years of use, the tile still looks great, and not a single one has popped loose. Once in awhile, I scrub the grout and reseal it, but that is all the care it takes. It was truly a "Yankee" thrift project.
