We purhased a split level house, typical of the 1960's. The lower level floor had been built up, we assumed to have some insulation between the concrete and the carpet. It was bouncy and way too springy so my husband ripped it up and saw that what we had was plywood over strips of wood, no insulation at all. Taking it out was a good idea since it added a few inches of height to the floor with what was a very low ceiling.

We want to carpet the floor but are wondering if we need a sub floor over the concrete or what? Has anyone done this? I want to be able to use the room year round and not freeze my feet off and we are in Western New York where it is 34 degrees today and snowing....

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
