I own a split level with a drywall "half wall" railing up to the second floor. I would like to remove this drywall railing and replace it with a more traditional bannister and ballusters on the free (open) side. It is a relatively short span but I want to make sure it is solid and sturdy. Any advice on how to proceed? The area below the stairs is finished but I would not be oppsoed to opening the wall/ceiling and securing the railing if aboslutely necessary to make it sturdy. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
