Default What is it? Mystery Wall Treatment from the 1920s

A wall of whitish tiles embossed with "Certain-Teed" was found in the basement of a c. 1926 house. The homeowner wants to know what they are and so do we.

Personally my guess is it is gypsum tile, which CertainTeed manufactured beginning in the late 20s.

I have photos but the file is too large to attach here. Does this ring any bells out there? Thanks.

PS: If anyone wants to see the photos of this mystery wall, please email me at kathleen.macmurray@saint-gobain.com. I'll be happy to send them. Thanks.

Thanks! You may be right about it being Beaver Board. Certain-teed (yes, the company is still around as CertainTeed Corporation) acquired Beaver Products in the early 1920s. I have some CertainTeed salesman books from the 1930s with photos of products - I'll consult that as soon as it gets delivered from storage. Thanks for replying!
