Red face Wrought iron handrail rusted and wobbly

How might I fix this handrail? (See attached pic) It's so rusted that it's no longer attached to the cement step, but I'd like to try to salvage the rail and re-use it.

Back in the day we used to install iron railing posts into pockets in the concrete step. Once everything was ready for fastening molten lead was poured into this pocket to set the post in place. Unfortunately I can't tell if that's the case here.

You might look in the yellow pages for a company that does ornamental railings like yours or even a welder with a portable welding unit. Likely they will have to weld on a base to the existing post and anchor to the concrete. Or if it's let into the concrete and surrounded by lead they may be able to remove the broken off piece , weld on a new piece and reset in lead again.

    Cheers.
