Default To Vapor Barrier or Not...That is the question

I have heard and read so many contradicting statement regarding vapor barrier when finishing a basement. I am in the process of completing my basement. I used steel studs with a 1/4' gap between the stud and wall. So if I decide use vapor barrier, I still can. But there lies some more controversy as to where to put it. Either against the wall or between the studs and Sheetrock, over the insulation. My basement is very dry...knock on wood. The basement was finished for about 20 years with 2x3's and non pressure treated bottoms plates. With also foil faced insulation. When we demoed there was virtually no mold.
Any feed back would be great. Thanks in advance.

Never, ever use a vapor barrier in the basement. See www.buildingscience.com for a basement wall construction for your climate. The government pays them to do research.

Check out this article -- it covers this topic pretty well.
