Default Looking for a durable clear for a faux finish dining table.

I finished a dining room table with Valspar weathered finish. The people at the store recommended a clear protector. I read the label and it specifically said not to use on dining tables. What can I use. The sheen does not have to be very shiny just durable.

I prefer a floor rated polyurethane. I like oil based but it will add an amber tint to the color, water based will dry clearer. I prefer the OldMaster's brand.

I would not have to pick the type based on what type of paint I used would I?
