Default Sand look on a plaster wall

I cut a section of wall (plaster over dry wall) to install a pocket door. How do I finish the section of wall to get the sandy look of plaster that I will be matching too?

Use a product like U S G Red Top Gypsum Plaster Regular and add the sand that will match the existing texture.
When plaster has taken up to where your finger will not leave an inpression use a green sponge float to texture.Float can be purchased at the plaster supply store.
