    Default gardengirl

I found a real nice antique bed yeaterday in a used furniture store it is quarter sawn oak and kind of a sleigh bed design it has been refinished but who ever did it put some sort of a very shining glossy finish on it. How can i bring that down without scratching the wood? i have not purchased it yet.

    Gardengirl,
You can re-coat the piece with a lower sheen varnish. Scuff sand the piece well with fine sandpaper and then re-varnish.

Only way to get it the way you want it is to feather sand down the new finish and apply a lower sheen varnish. I would try Man-O-War satin Marine Varnish.
