I am looking to paint my knotty pine wood floors and have a few questions. My wife is pregnant and I have a little one already in the house, so I want to minimize the use of VOC paints, primers, etc. I'd like to go with No- or Low-VOC's paints, primers, etc. So my questions are:

1. How do I keep the knots from bleeding through?
I'm thinking I could first spot use some BIN on the knots and then get some SafeCoat Sealant to prime the floor and essentially trap the BIN under the sealant. Then use some No- or Low-VOC paint. My thinking is that although BIN may have high concentration of VOC's, I wouldn't need to use that much and then I'd be sealing it with the Sealant to keep it from off-gassing. Does this sound right? Or is there another way?

2. I am worried about making sure that the floor holds up against heavy use and I want to make sure that it is fairly 'shiny." What type of paint should I use? Again, I want to use No- or Low-VOC paint.
