    Default Crater walls

We just purchased a home that has so much texture on it the wall could be dangerous. There a peaks more than 1/4 in depth and over 6 inches long all over the entire room and it appears it has been painted. Is there any way to dissolve the compound and if not, can drywall be installed over it. I'm afraid the drywall would make the room smaller but if that's the only alternative, I will be glad to have it done.:

If you cant sc**** it off. Then the best bet would be to demo it and reboard it.
