Default How to best cut outlet covers?

My problem is that my baseboard trim goes too close to my outlets so I cannot fit a standard sized outlet cover without either having to cut into the trim or modify the cover somehow. Does anyone know of a source for custom sized outlet covers OR a good tool for sawing through that brittle plastic?

A hacksaw or handsaw will do just fine. Clean up the cut edge with sandpaper.

Buy the VINYL coverplates, like those from Leviton.
They are more flexible and easier to modify.

Any electrical supply house will know what you are talking about.
Most are trade only, so call first to see if they sell over the counter to DIY. Also, try to being cash, as some do not accept CC, and they may not accept a check from a person who does not have account there.
I wish the GCs I worked with were as quality-minded as Tom Silva and Mike Holmes.

I think they are NYLON and not VINYL...........

They are easier to cut though and do not chip.

Plastic, nylon, vinyl, no matter as long as it isn't metal.

Mark where you need to trim it, lay it on a solid surface, and put a straight edge on the line. Use a utility tool with a very sharp blade making repeated passes, don't try to cut through quickly.
