So we bought an old Victorian that had been duplexed that we are undoing. Both kitchens have vinyl flooring that was glued right to the hardwood floors. The vinyl looks like it is going to come up pretty well, but there is a glue residue left behind.

We don't want to sand the floors if we can avoid it, we would prefer to use a solvent to try and clean up the glue.

1. Has anyone tried this before?

2. What solvents have you had luck with?

We know that we need to be careful not to use something too strong, and that test patches should always be used.
