Question 11 ' span- how much header?

Hubby is an experienced DIYer, but cautious. He is doing an 11' by 4' bumpout on our kitchen exterior wall. Can that distance be safely spanned??? How much header - two 2x8s, two 2x10s, or do we need a steel beam? HELP

Thanks guys! You have given us the place to start. We will consult an engineer before we begin tearing out walls. M.R.
