    Default removing ceiling finish

I need to remove a ceiling finish from drywall. The finish is heavier than a popcorn finish. I've tried using a spray bottle with water and scraping with putty knife but it is not coming off as easy as I've seen it come off on some of the home improvement shows I watch. Any suggestions for something that would be more effective on removing this ceiling finish?

The popcorn has probably been painted which makes removal quite fun. Still, using water and a sc****r eases the process, though you sc**** it a little first to break the paint barrier so the water can soak in underneath it and it takes longer for the water to saturate the texture.
