    Default Water damage

I have a two story home and my problem is that the floor/ceiling joists have water damage from the deck the previous owner installed. the joists are 4x10 beams along with that there is a 4x10 header beam for the wall, part of that will need to be replaced as well. what i would like to know is, would it work to just scab another 4x10 beam about 4 to 5 foot in lenght to the exsisting beam and lag bolt it into place (or would that case saging) if so what about useing some kind of metal saddle and bolting the two pieces together. I am trying to keep from using a lap joint so i dont have to rip up the floor upstairs. thanks for you time who ever replies back
