How to support lally columns on sand?
I just read the Bye Bye Bounce article because I think bounce is causing the grout to crack on our new kitchen floor! Adding a perpendicular beam sounds like the best solution -- but how do I support it when the crawl space is a "cape cod basement", just sand? What can I do to sturdy the 6x6 or lally columns?
Re: How to support lally columns on sand?
you need to pour a concrete footing large enough to support the load. Ideally you want to dig down to undisturbed soil.
Not knowing the loads or the soil bearing capacity I can't tell you what size, but a guess would be at least 2'x2'x1'
