    Default Engineering Housed Stringers

I'm replacing my basement utility stairs with a more formal set. The space and structure requires that I use housed stringers. I'm afraid a standard 2 X 12 might crack. I need to engineer a stringer that is more stable. Perhaps bonding a 1 by to some LVL? Tom Silva built a set of stairs using housed stringers for one of the project houses. Does any body recall how he engineered his stringers? I called tech support for LVL. They wouldn't help.

    Thanks
