    Question 14" rough-in?

We want to replace out old toilet with an new more efficient model and just realized the rough in for out toilet is 14".
Do we need to have a new toilet with a 14" rough-in or will a more standard size of 12" work? Is there any problem leaving a 2" gap between the toilet and wall?

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank You.

Not really .... though a couple of considerations.

Remember it will project further into the room and if the toilet is situated by an inswing door check the bowl won't be in the way of opening/closing the door.

The water supply tube to the tank will likely need replacing to accomodate the change in distance.

    Good luck with your project.

There is nothing mechanically wrong with a 2" space, however it may draw the eye quickly and may need to be cleaned more often. You can get a 14" rough easy enough but only in the top-selling models. Most are offset with a larger tank, however some toto's use a flange connection device which moves the whole toilet. Or you could cut the pipe and move the flange back 2".
