Default Heat guns for paint removal

Is there any harm in using a heat gun to remove old paint on cedar shingles on the exterior of a house? Will a heat gun damage the shingles in any way (dry them out too much or anything else?)

Have used heat gun to remove paint for years. I doubt you could get the shingles much drier than they are now.

    Be careful!

My wife caused a $150,000 fire to our house using a heat gun to remove paint from our siding. A heat plate or The Silent Paint remover is safer because you are not blowing extremely hot air into the stud pockets. Keep a spray bottle of water handy and pre spray any cracks and post spray to cool it down.
