Buying an old home without horse hair in walls
I am currently looking to buy a home in the Boston area. I previously lived in an 1860 home with horse hair plaster. The walls were made of wooden slats and then the plaster looked like it was pushed through the slats. I discovered that I'm allergic to these types of walls. Could you tell me when builders stopped using animal hair to build homes in New England.? I've read that sometimes drywall incorporated animal hair along with cardboard and other fibers. How can I examine a wall in a house that I'm interested in buying and know for sure whether it contains animal hair.
