Our home is about 125 years old. Our problem is with the floor of the "new addition" which we guess is only a few years newer. The addition has a short dirt crawl space that I've squeezed into only a few times before. When we first moved in, we needed to shim the fridge a bit to put it level. Since then, the shims have gotten bigger. There are other places around the addition (kitchen, bath and dining room) that are sagging as well. I'm uncertain what we need to do. Can this be fixed with some columns and some fresh wood spliced in? Or am I going to need some serious overhaul work? I'm not even sure if I should call in a general contractor or will I need some kind of a structural engineer? Money's tight, but we know something needs to be done.
