Default Remove Hair Spray from a painted wall

In the home we just bought, the previous owners apparently used hair spray quite liberally in the master bathroom. It gives off a dull appearance on the wall. Does anyone know a way to cut through the hair spray and clean it from the painted wall, or should I just paint over it? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hairspray is water soluble, so you should be able to rinse a good portion of it off with a wet rag. To save yourself a bunch of labor I'd do a test with primer and paint to see if it will adhere, which it should.
