    Default What plant is this?

This was in my yard when we bought our house. I just love it and would like to plant others. It dies completely back in the winter and grows all new foliage each year. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Looks like some kind of day lilly. Lots of different varieties.

Dig down at the side of one of them, you'll likely find bulbs that you can split off and transplant elsewhere.

I'm sure that they are tubers or bulbs and would be easily thinned and transplanted. I'd like to know for sure what they are and find some that are different colors than the orange like this one.

I googled images of day lilies until I was blue in the face. None have flowers like these. The flower in the photo is as large as they get. They don't open up any more than what it looks like in the pic. They get more shoots that flower but none are any larger.

It looks like Crocosmia to me.

Way cool!!! I've never heard of it before. I googled that name and I'm sure you are correct. Thank you so much! Now I know what to look for.

Thumbs up Re: What plant is this?

This is the info I got from my wife, an avid gardener...

The Latin name is Crocosmia. It is a bulb and comes in different colors (reds, yellows, oranges.) The one called Lucifer is most cold hardy and is supposed to come back as a perennial in zone 5.
