    Smile Building a Pergola

I have a new house with Hardiplank siding in Atlanta, GA. The 12X24 foot pergola will attach to house supported by poured concrete patio/footers. I am attaching 2X8 ledger board (2X8 rafters) to the 2nd story flooring system. Is it okay to attach over the siding? I'm using 6inch 3/8 lag screws.

Keep in mind this structure will not be supporting human weight or roofing system...

In my neck of the woods a pergola is a completely free-standing structure... to me it sounds like you're building a covered deck.

Now to your question.... attaching over the siding should not be a problem... your main issue is going to be flashing the joint and getting it up under the siding lap above so that it's waterproof.
