    Default Pear trouble

I have a pear tree that every year gives fruit with maroon colored skin. See attached photo. The fruit is VERY hard to bite and is very dry and mealy, like chewing coarse sawdust. Is this an edible pear and if so what is wrong here?

It is edible possibly a Moonglow variety. Unlike apples pears need to be stored to ripen and soften. Try putting them in the frige for a month and try them again. I'm not exactly sure when they are considered ripe to pick and store. Probably late summer to early fall.
