    Default prepping 117 siding

We are painting an old 1920's farmhouse which has years of peeling paint on its 117 siding. I have looked at the ads for the Paint Shaver referenced in some TOH articles and in the ad section of the magazine, but due to the curve in the pattern of this siding, I'm not sure it would be the best solution. PeelAway products by Dumont Chemical are another alternative that has been suggested. Any feedback on these or other options? Stripping techniques using heat concern me due to fire dangers--the house is in a very remote location at our treefarm.
