Looking forward to roof work
We've recently purchased an older home that seems to have a bit of a "remuddle" of the exterior. Depending on which side of the house you stand on, the sides and Mansard roof have been treated differently. On one side, the same siding on the walls goes up the lower slope of the Mansard. On the adjoining side, there's clapboard up to the eave, then scallop-edged siding above, changing to asphalt shingles on the top hip. It's like previous owners couldn't quite figure out where the sides ended and the roof began. As we're going to redo the outside of the house next year, it'll be interesting for us to see how This Old House treats the Mansard roof in Roxbury. There's a lot of detail in those old windows and trims.
