How did I get so lucky to win a carpet like this?
You may ask, "How did I get so lucky to win a carpet like this?"
And the answer is: a record-breaking rainstorm caused new leaks I have never experienced before in my basement.
I tore up the carpet within 24 hours of it getting wet. I ran a dehumidifier next to it with the pad and carpet raised in order to dry it as quickly and thoroughly as possible. There was a mildew smell at first, but it's been gone now for a couple of weeks. The only trace of mildew left is the line on the carpet I point to in the photo below.
So... do I really have to throw the whole carpet and pad away like many folks suggest?
Or would it suffice to dispose of the affected padding underneath (see type of padding in picture), Rugdoctor the carpet to remove the mildew line, buy some new padding to replace the disposed part, and lay it all back down?
Re: How did I get so lucky to win a carpet like this?
Update: the rug doctor web site claims they have a product that will kill mildew in carpets.
But of course, I still intend to throw away the affected padding (and probably bleach the tile floor underneath).
