Default Repair advice for 100-year old pine floor...

We live in a 100-year old house. Our hardwood floors are original made of beautiful 5-inch pine planks. However, there are several areas that need repair including some holes and splits in the wood.

Our flooring contractor is recommending to sand the floors, collect the sand and combine it with an epoxy and fill in the gaps. Does this make sense? What are the pro's and con's to this approach?
