Default How to Prep Wall for Tile backspash

Hi guys- I'm new to the forum.

I am in the process of removing a lamanate backsplash and then tiling the backsplash.

While removing he lamainate the drywall paper is coming up in many areas as well some glue still remains on the wall. It's not pretty.

    My question is:
Once I remove all the laminate- How do I prep the wall to be ready for tile??????

    My educated guess was
Sand the areas with that glue remains
Oil Prime it with Gardz or oil primer
Skim Coat the walls with joint compound (2 coats)

Does anyone have any tips or hints or suggestions???? This is my first tiling project so I don't know what the surface needs to look like for the mastic to properly adhere and the tile to be level.
