We have a yard that is very difficult to take care of. The place sat empty for 2 years before we moved in. Getting tired of fighting weeds, we decided to place sod in all the areas we want grass. Now we need something to cover the rest. We are looking for Colorado native plants that work well with a sandy/clay soil. I was hoping for just some ground cover such as Bishop's Weed, but thought I'd get some info here first.

Area is full sun, and we would like to use very little water once the plants are established. One problem we have are the boys next door. They love to play basketball and often end up in our yard after their ball. We don't mind, but the ground cover or plants will have to get used to some foot traffic. Any ideas what would be good to plant? It is a fairly large area around 800 sq ft or so.
