Default Wood shavings in balloon framing

I am tearing apart my semi-finished basement with the intent to finish it off properly. In removing all the wood paneling (very attractive, I know) I came across a small pile of wood shavings sitting up in the balloon framing of my basement, next to where the gas line enters the house through the foundation. There are no gaps whatsoever, and I have inspected and can find no rodents or otherwise in the area. Where could these shavings have come from? Am I missing something? I want to make sure we have no infestation before I go ahead and insulate and sheetrock the walls down there.

Can you post a picture? The shavings could have come from a critter or they could be remnants from construction. Hard to say without seeing them.

BINGO. I looked at the hole where the gas line comes in, and that is exactly what happened! I never thought to look up that high... Thanks!!
