    Default Blu Ray and 5.1

I saw a nice surround sound receiver that has all the features that I currently need but don't have in my current surround receiver. It has switchable outlets so it will cut power to the sub woofer when not in use, It has multiple HDMI in as I need another HDMI port and it has multiple fiber in.

The issue is that I am looking into replacing my DVD recorder with a Blu Ray. Blu Ray has a 7.1 output. I am not that interested in 7.1. Will the Blu Ray take the 7.1 media and output a 5.1? Is this a case where both are available in the new format. Should I continue to look for a 7.1 receiver? So far I haven't found a 7.1 that meets all my requirements and like I said. I don't care that much for 7.1.

When recently upgrading a plasma HD screen along with a BlueRay I also upgraded to a new 7.1 receiver. The receiver has 4 HDMI inputs as well as 1080p upscaling for legacy equipment which is nice.

The problem with 7.1 many rooms are difficult to incorporate 2 additional speakers properly and mostly 5.1 is sufficient. However since BlueRay is high definition video the 7.1 surround is a common audio format included. With certain films the surround with 7.1 is amazing ... with the right receiver.

The biggest disappointment with BlueRay .... for me .... are the different aspect ratios the films are formated with which don't fill the entire screen like the 16:9..... sure would be nice to fill the whole screen
I will watch standard DVD's with the 16:9 rather than the same title on BlueRay and these are using 5.1 surround. The player will output whatever the audio code is.
If you are watching a BlueRay disc and are inputing to a 5.1 receiver via HDMI then set the player to output the audio using PCM .... the player will make the conversion since PCM doesn't have the bandwidth for 7.1 surround.

Does your receiver have multiple optical inputs and a switchable outlet? What is the brand and model, if it does?

Umm. It sort of looks like English but not quite. I mean, the same letters and all, just makes no sense.

    Digital audio inputs ( optical/coaxial ) 2/2

The one downside is no switchable AC outlet.
