Default painting subflooring before carpet installation

We are replacing the carpeting in our house. We dicovered multiple stains and a lot of dust/fine sand beneath the padding. We have scrapped the stained areas to remove the stuck padding and have vacuumed the subflooring. Is there any merit to painting the subflooring to seal it?

    Thanks,

If you've got pet odors, or the stains were caused by pets, then yes painting the floor will help. Use a stain blocking shellac such as:

Yes, you should seal or paint the subfloor because if there were ever any pet acidents on that carpet then you may always smell it if you dont seal the floor I recomend a product called Kills.

Killz is ok, BIN is a better product and easier to use.

Thank you for the replies. Although we do not have any pets, hard to say if the previous owners did. So sealing it is.

    Thnaks again,
