    Red face lost on wire size

    I need to know what size wire to run for a 220v stove I was told 8 gage and also 6 gage

    How far of a run is it from the panel to the stove? And what is the amp rating for the stove? Or if you have the make/model a google search may turn up a manual to find the info on the current draw.

    It sounds like the differance between aluminum and copper wire. copper conducts electricity better than aluminum. The smaller size(gauge) #8 would be copper wire,the larger#6 would be aluminum. The ampacity of these two wires is the same. Cost can be the major factor. Be carefull,however, some stoves (appliances) reguire a copper wire conection. Check with the manufacturer. hope this helps
