Default bathtub handle rotates 1 whole turn before shutting off

Hello Need help! My bathtub handle shuts the water o.k. but I need to rotate the handle about 1 whole turn before the handle stops turning. What have I overlooked when replacing the handle inserts ?

    Thanks again

You give us very little info to go by.

Please tell us more, things like: what have you replaced, and with what parts? what make faucet is it?

My bathtub handle shuts the water but when water is shut the handle stills spins about another turn and then finally
stops turning. It is very weird. Originally I changed the handle insert because it was stripped and just kept spinning and wouldn't shut the water. There is no leaky faucet. The handle just kept turning.
    The brand I don't know.

If the handles keep on rotating, I think the thread is worn out.

Does the faucet have stems with washers pressing on seats?

You need handles mated exactly to the faucet stem, not the 'universal fit' types that use a wimpy set-screw to keep them secure. Those will also destroy the original splines making even the correct parts not fit anymore. So you're likely to need new stems and new handles, but if you're lucky new handles- the RIGHT ones- will do the trick.
