Default Help! My washing machine drain pipe goes to the ceiling?

I just moved in two days ago...went to connect my washing machine and found that I have to connect my washing machine pipe to a hose that goes up? How do I make a tight seal? Is this acceptable?

Please attach a photo. Your description is unclear.

A washing machine has hot/cold connections and a drain connection. Which one are you asking about?

To load a photo: upload it on a host like photobucket.com then give us the link.

If you're talking about the drain hose, then no it won't work no matter how well you seal the connection. Washing machine pumps are not designed to lift water any higher than slightly above the top of the machine, and if there's much more than that the tub will receive backflow and never empty. On top of all that it doesn't meet any building codes, so if you're renting and it was advertised with a washer connection, the landlord may have to have some plumbing work done!
