    Default concrete by soffits

My circa 1935 farmhouse has concrete that was damaged when the soffit vents were put in. Do you know what that concrete was for?

Would the debris prevent the airflow from traveling through the vents, behind the rafter insulation and out through the ridge vent?

    Thanks

not sure but my best guess would be fire stopping at the top of the walls. back then, not all houses had a top plate at the top of the walls and brick, stone or cement would be used for fire stopping.
