    Default what is the little black diamond for on my tape messure

    my coworker and i do a lot of wall cont. and installing doors. so as we work we talk about to use our tools and stuff but we donot have a clue about the black diamond on our tape it is at 19 3/16 " and so forth can you help us out. we think it maybe used for block or mason we do not do that only steel or wood studs and sheet rock. thank you

    It's a mark used in roof truss framing, and if the framers use it, a full sheet of plywood (8') will fall in the middle of each fifth truss.

    Modern framing calls for a truss every 16" o.c or 24" o.c, not 19.2" anymore, so these diamond marks don't get used much these days.

    Some new tape measures omit these markings.
