    Default Walnut Wainscoting

My wife and I really like the look of walnut. We are planning to add wainscoting to the basement using a walnut veneer for the panel. Our plan was to trim with real Walnut, but that is far too expensive. We would like to use a less expensive material for the trim, then stain the trim and the walnut veneer panel to make it look similar. Can someone recommend a trim material to use?

Poplar would probably be the least expensive and is easy to stain or dye to look like other wood.

This is typically done - make a few samples with different stains and woods until you have a combination you like.
